Grants for Loan Extension

It targets all types of legitimate Micro Small and Medium Enterprise (MSME) businesses in the manufacturing and export value chains that obtained loans before COVID-19 and for whom, during or after COVID, the repayment periods were extended due to the effects of COVID on their loan service capability, and whose such loans are still outstanding and current. 

Eligibility Criteria

  • Have been tax compliant before March 2020
  • Have been compliant up to March 2020 on NSSF payments
  • Are operating in the manufacturing or exporting supply chain
  • Have a number of employees ranging from 2 to 100
  • Preference: located in growth triangle
  • Preference: located in a refugee district
  • Preference: women owned
  • The MSME must comply with the NEMA Act and the World Bank requirements
  • Registered and operating under the Laws of Uganda
  • Have names of shareholders with their National Identity Numbers
  • Be a COVID relief beneficiary: The original loan must have benefited (in terms of restructuring) from the BoU COVID 19 response which took effect from April 1st, 2020
  • Be manufacturing/ export oriented. The debtor/ beneficiary shall be a registered business MSME operating in the export and/ or manufacturing sectors
  • Be a current customer/client of the bank or financial institution(s) from which it borrowed
  • Have been a borrower in good standing, having the original loan which was current and legally valid and not classified as nonperforming, by 1st March 2020, and be valid and still unpaid by the time of application
  • Provide, to maximum extent possible, information relating to its operations prior to the year 2020
