With one of the fastest growing populations in Africa, creating a sustainable jobs base is fundamental to Uganda’s future development.
Unlocking the private sector potential in Uganda is key to addressing these needs.
From the outset, the United Kingdom (UK) has been a strong supporter of the INVITE program and is very happy to be associated with this web-platform initiative, supporting firms to access the finance and services they need to recover from the Covid crisis, develop their supply-chains and extend their reach into new markets.
Sweden is delighted to be a part of this collaborative and coordinated effort to support the delivery of more and better jobs under Uganda’s Third National Development Plan.
The program will support Uganda’s economic transformation and stimulate the creation of new private sector jobs and opportunities for self-employment activities.
By supporting this initiative, Sweden hopes to play its part in expanding Income-earning opportunities for poor households, including youth and women, and to contribute towards the goal of reducing poverty in Uganda.
Investment for Industrial Transformation and Employment (INVITE) is a collaborative program between the Government of Uganda, the private sector and its development partners; The World Bank Group, SIDA, UK Government, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands. INVITE aims to create private sector manufacturing jobs and increase incomes across Uganda. INVITE will achieve this by supporting manufacturing and exporting firms. INVITE will operate a range of products through the private sector foundation Uganda and the Bank of Uganda INVITE Trust.
Exporting firms of manufactured and semi manufactured products planning to increase exports to high value markets or identify new high value markets receive business development services. Eligible firms receive expert advice on developing export strategies, product improvement standards and certification e.t.c intended to increase their market share and value in export markets.
Lead investors in manufacturing or exporting manufactured and semi manufactured supply chains are supported to locate investments that are beneficial to refugee and their host communities. Lead investors are supported to establish factories in new supply chains to increase potential incomes of refugees and their host communities.
