Profile

Phillip Aliker is a Ugandan Barrister and Chartered Arbitrator with experience in dozens of international arbitrations as counsel and as arbitrator. In 2017 he was appointed by the President of the World Bank to the President’s Panel of Arbitrators and Conciliators at the International Centre for the Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) for a term of 6 years. He is on the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators President’s Arbitration Panel and receives other institutional appointments.

He is an accreditor mediator, a contributor to the World Arbitration Reporter (Uganda Chapter) and, the International Council for Commercial Arbitration Handbook (Uganda Chapter).  Phillip is designated to United Nations Commission on International Trade Law Working Groups II and III as a state delegate since 2017 and an occasional appointing authority under the UNCITRAL rules. He is admitted to practice law in Uganda, England and Wales and New York (as a foreign legal consultant).

Phillip holds undergraduate degrees in economics and political science from Vanderbilt University and in law from the University of Leeds, a Diploma in International and Comparative Arbitration from Queen Mary, University of London and a Diploma in International Construction Contracts from L’Université Paris-Panthéon-Assas. He is an Independent Non-Executive Board Director of ABSA Bank Uganda, sitting on all board committees and is the Chair of the board Credit Committee.
